FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
PERSONAL LIBRARIAN BIBLIOTHERAPY SERVICE
What is the difference between bibliotherapy sessions and sessions with a therapist or social worker?
In short, the difference between our bibliotherapy service and psychotherapy is that our discussions focus on the resource (i.e., book excerpt or article) to help with understanding or dealing with an issue. Psychotherapy/counseling services focus on the issue - and what can be done about it.
Will you be able to tell me what is wrong with me?
No. We do not diagnose or treat any illness. However, our clients often find similarities between themselves and "people" in the resources we suggest, which leads them to seek the assistance of a mental health or medical provider.
I am currently seeing a therapist. Will I need to stop?
Our service is a bridge to and in support of professional mental health services. We work with the mental health/medical providers that clients are currently seeing to select resources for use during their sessions. We also recommend clients to therapists and counselors, if they/we see a need.
How much does it cost? I do not have insurance and cannot afford the expense of help, right now.
We are a non-profit organization, operating solely for the purpose of helping people. We make it very easy to afford our service.
The cost for this service ($50 - $75 per session, depending on the plan selected) is often subsidized, thanks to the generous support of our donors and sponsors. We also offer an income-sensitive payment plan. We reduce fees by 80% for people on fixed incomes.
