WHAT IS BILIOTHERAPY?
Bibliotheraphy is...Bibliotherapy is reading with the intent to address specific issues or challenges. In the past, books and poetry have been the primary tools. Our organization uses social media, audio narratives and other art forms to serve the same purpose. We careful select the right media, support people to find themselves and their experiences inside and create meaningful connections that allow them to experience catharsis and resolve both imminent and latent issues. "Prescribing" books for healing is not a new science, and it is enjoying a renaissance in Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom. Thanks to Words Heal, Inc. and others who specialize in the art, we are now experiencing a revival in the United States. Word Heal, Inc. developed a framework - the Personal Librarian Service™ - that allows "laypeople" to support others through facilitated bibliotherapy, after a very short training. We are currently conducting research on its effectiveness and the many ways that it can help people with exceptional struggles heal, through the words of others! |
